Loading Terminals for Fuels - Why Use Metal Hose?______________
Metal hose has a number of significant advantages over other types of materials when used in bottom loading applications.
o Metal hose is both chemical and heat resistant
o Fittings are directly welded to the assembly thus eliminating the potential for fittings blowing off the ends of the assembly
o Not having to use barbed fittings increases the live length of the hose which in turn, increases flexibility
o No threat of permeation
o Metal is resistant to the newer blends of fuels offered today (such as ethylene etc.)
o Scuff guards (installed upon request) offer added protection to both the assembly and the operator

Drop Hose - Hose Master's lightweight drop hose is constructed from Masterflex, the most pliable annular hose. Masterflex offers the safety and durability of an all stainless steel design without he threat of permeation.
Flex Hose - For counter weighted hose loaders, Hose Master's hydroformed flex hinge offers a full 33 degree flexibility window, exceeding the API RP 1004 bottom loading requirement.
Scuff Guard - As an option, a triple layer scuff guard is available upon request. Constructed with a tough lycra exterior jacket, a closed cell neoprene sponge core, and a heavy duty nylon inner sleeve, scuff guards offer protection to both the bottom loading assembly and the operator. Scuff guards are furnished in standard 5 ft. lengths, with custom lengths up to 8 ft, and have options for color coding or company name and logo identification.
Hydrostatic Testing for Safety _________________________________
Hose Master recommends Hydrostatic Testing for all bottom loading assemblies. Hydrostatic tests are designed to prove the strength and integrity of the assembly. A Hydrostatic Test is performed by filling the assembly with water and evacuating all the air. The assembly is then pressurized to a specified test pressure for a pre-determined period of time. Hydrostatic Testing is a safe way to ensure the integrity of a hose assembly. While this is a proof test of the integrity of the assembly, minute leaks may go undetected.
Questions to Ask When Selling Metal Bottom Loading Assemblies
- Are you having problems with permeation?
- Do you find residue (or gumminess) on the exterior of a non-metal assembly?
- Are you having problems with fitting retention?
- Do you experience kinking in the hose assembly?
Industry Focus - Petrol-Chemical_______________________________
The Petrol-Chemical industry has hose requirements similar to those found in refining and the chemical processing markets. Petrol-Chemical plants are primarily involved in the manufacture of plastic resins from a petroleum base. Hose applications include chemical transfer, steam lines, dry bulk material handling, and dock hoses.
Examples of Petrol-Chemical applications that use metal hose are:
