Industry Review – Bulk Pneumatic Transfer
The Bulk Material Handling industry for metal hose applications refers to the transfer and transport of dry bulk materials. These materials include grain, plastic pellets, and chemical powders/granules, which all use pneumatic conveying systems (using either low-pressure or vacuum). Because of its abrasion resistance and decreased loading times, metal hose is superior to other hose types in these applications.
Metal hose is also excellent in dilute-phase or dense-phase pressure transfer applications. These applications require higher positive pressures to convey materials while maintaining minimal damage to the media being conveyed. Bulk material handling hose can be found on transportation equipment, as well as loading/unloading facilities in manufacturing plants or transportation logistics facilities.
Examples of Bulk Material Handling applications that use metal hose are:
* Pneumatic Dry Bulk Conveying - Interflex, Ultraflex. T-Rex™
FloppyGuard™
FloppyGuard™ is Hose Master's line of floppy-interlocked metal hose. Constructed from a variety of alloys, this product offers superior flexibility and crush-resistant construction. Used in a wide range of applications, including casing or armor for small diameter hose, electrical cable, and fiber optics, FloppyGuard™ is available in sizes from 3/16” I.D. and up, and can be covered with PVC or fluropolymer coatings for liquid-tight or chemical-resistant service. All FloppyGuard™ is ultrasonically
cleaned prior to packaging. Because of Hose Master's unique
ability to design and make its machine tooling, Hose Master can
custom-design FloppyGuard™ to meet exact specifications. For

When it comes to interlocked metal hose, Sam J. Foti, founder of Hose Master Inc., is the undisputed expert.
Invented
in Germany in 1885, interlocked metal hose has been in the United
States since the early 1920's. Over the years, the art in
manufacturing stripwound hose had been neglected. The hose was slow to
manufacture and in most cases, a poor product to use. In 1964,
Sam got involved with interlocked products. Identifying the problems
associated with manufacturing the
hose, Sam redesigned the tooling and machinery to not only produce a
consistent interlocked hose, but to also speed-up the
production.
Today,
the results of Sam's ingenuity is the technology used throughout the
industry in the production of interlocked products. His designs
not only changed the way that stripwound hose is made, but the way
that it is used and perceived in the industry.
